What the rules actually say

30/60

Days you have to stay in Malta and find new work after your employment ends — 30, extendable to 60 if you can show you can support yourself. Since 1 August 2025.

Losing your job is not the end of your stay

Most people are told they have days. They have weeks — and a legal route to more. The catch nobody explains: the extension is not automatic, and the application is filed by your new employer, not by you. So the deadline that decides your status depends on somebody else picking up the phone.
